Stew Kitchen Ohio State Drum Major COLUMBUS - When the Ohio State Marching Band takes the field this season, it will be led by a Kenton High School graduate. Stew Kitchen was selected to be the band's drum major at tryouts Tuesday night at the OSU practice field.

Steve Ganger, Kenton High School band assistant, who was the director when Kitchen was drum major at KHS, was one of several Kenton residents to make the trip to the auditions.

"It was really exciting," said Ganger. "Stew really looked great."

Three candidates were hoping to lead the band this season, including a fifth-year senior who was the drum major last year, said Ganger. The third candidate was the assistant drum major in 2005.

But when freshman Kitchen took the field, said Ganger, the difference in the three was obvious.
"Stew looked really sharp," he said. "He was faster and more athletic. He was a great choice."
