"The Best Damn Band in the Land," as it is known,
is the 225-member, all-brass Ohio State Marching Band, first formed in
1879. One of the crowd-pleasers in its repertory is "Hang on Sloopy." The
song was performed by The McCoys, an Ohio group, and evolved into the
Buckeyes' game-day and them and eventually the state of Ohio's official
rock song. It was heard for the first time at the O.S.U.-lllinois game
on Oct. 9,1965, and has rocked the stands ever since.
