ELYRIA – An Elyria native has been named drum major for the Ohio State University Marching Band. Matt Bally, a graduate of Elyria High School and an OSU sophomore, won the prestigious honor. He replaces another Loran County Buckeye.

Bally, who served as drum major for Elyria High School, will lead the OSU band onto the field with the famous high strut and backbend and the half-time show performance.

Scott Sommer, an OSU junior and a graduate of Avon Lake High School where he served as a drum major, was named assistant to Bally.

Last year, both were roommates at OSU and competed fro the drum major post. Last year, Sommer was head drum major at OSU and Bally was his assistant. Bally becomes the 50th OSU Drum Major and the last of this century.

Bally is scheduled to perform on May 28 in downtown Elyria with the Elyria High School Marching Band for its Appreciation Day Concert along with Cory Thompson, another former Elyria High graduate and former OSU drum major.
